some of my favorite people ever, mainly because they can tolerate me.  the Jacksons are friends from school that live in pittsburgh now and often host me when i frequent their city.  they have this ability to bring out the extreme goofiness in me.  anyway, it's always a blessing to have their company because of their love for Christ. always an encouraging time to be with them to witness their love for one another.  they are dear to me and i treasure their friendship.  everytime i stay with them, i end up making fotos of them.  this time i decided we would make use of their home and make a bunch of them in the kitchen and bedroom and then at the giant swing in their neighbors yard.  oh, boy i was loving it.  they're cute.

i also went to school with Bridget one day.  she teaches spanish at a christian high school.  i had the opportunity to see another friend from college at her school that teaches there as well, Robbie S.  i say all that to say, i made some fotos of her class.

sometimes friends need to be highlighted, this is one.  Lucas came out from philly to help me document a wedding.  and, well, we made some rad fotos.  he's great and it was a blessing to have him along for the journey and to be able to talk of the Lord and encourage one another.  these were either at 50mm f/2 or 85 f/2 (the only two lenses and settings i use) using 1600 BW FUJI NEOPAN.

the last few are of me by lucas.  man, my mustache looks huge (and gorgeous).

[fotos of the apartment.
fotos of friends.]

moved this month.  i've been so concerned lately with what to fill it with (which in and of itself is not a bad thing).  and why?  if anyone knows me, i'm all about minimalism.  so, really it'd be a lot easier to just sit on the floor with pillows and rugs (something that worked for me in college).  the american dream to me is just overrated.  there is a beautiful hymn that is very apropos to my life at hand, it reads:

Father, I know that all my life
Is portioned out for me;
The changes that are sure to come,
I do not fear to see:
I ask thee for a present mind,
Intent on pleasing thee.

I would not have the restless will
That hurries to and fro,
Seeking for some great thing to do,
Or secret thing to know;
I would be treated as a child,
 And guided where I go.

I ask thee for the daily strength,
To none that ask denied,
A mind to blend with outward life,
While keeping at thy side,
Content to fill a little space,
If thou be glorified.

In service which thy will appoints
There are no bonds for me;
My secret heart is taught the truth
That makes thy children free;

A life of self-renouncing love Is one of liberty.

What made me even think of this hymn was the line, "Content to fill a little space, If thou be glorified."  Without Christ, all there is is stuff with which to just fill our lives.  And more stuff and more stuff and more stuff.  Like the writer of Ecclesiastes, he understands that a life of seeking self, or one that does not seek Christ is to no eternal profit: "Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun" (Ecc. 2:11).  Or as in the Gospel of Matthew (8:36), Christ says, ""For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?"  But this is not to say things in this life are bad.  It's that you just don't want to make your life all about "stuff".

That said: I'm having a party this Friday at the new apartment.  Y'all are welcome to come!  Contact me if you're interested.

their session was completely documented in film, notice the yumminess of all the fotos.  film carries it with a simplicity that is more and more calling me like a siren - but not the kind of siren that kills you.
these two are my friends.  they're fun.  i like them.  we laughed a lot.  i also like succinct sentences, it appears, when describing friends.

oh yeah, these were taken at sunrise.  sunrise is the new sunset.
