Veckatimest, Grizzly Bear.
this is Grizzly Bear's, what i would consider, sophomore (as opposed to third) album as a full fledged band.  Ed Droste, singer/songwriter, created the solo album Horn of Plenty in 2004 before Grizzly Bear formed and released their highly acclaimed 2006 album Yellow House.  2006's Yellow House was full of hypnotic sounds, rhythmic pulses, and enchanting vocals, nothing short of spectacular.  Grizzly Bear certainly steered their sound in Veckatimest in a new direction; it's lively, upbeat, and more positive.  this album really presents itself as the bands first complete collaboration.  much of Horn of Plenty and Yellow House came from previously composed songs from Droste or Daniel Rossen.  because of this, Veckatimest really acts as Grizzly Bear's purest sound as the songs and music no longer came from Droste's or Rossen's premeditations.  Veckatimest gives the listener a variety of things to latch on: the pulsing piano in "Two Weeks" or the lively texan, bluesy guitar sound in "Southern Point".  there remains, yet, the wandering instrumentals, like from Yellow House, that do not simply create a 'bridges' between vocals but push the listener to study carefully the meticulous and unique sounds of Grizzly Bear.
i heart this album, so should you.  Veckatimest
